I Just bought a home and the basement has radiant flooring. It seems to be heating the house well but is it more expensive then a gas furnace?? My water heater is also gas it that makes a difference.

A house we are considering to purchase has radiant heating. I’ve never seen it before and am wondering if it is a reason to pass on this house. I read up on how it works, but have not found any info on how it compares to other heating systems such as gas or electric.

I am considering buying a home with baseboard radiant heating (nat gas). The home was built in ‘62 and it has the original boiler. I have no experience with these systems. What brand of boiler would you recommend? I’ve got quotes for a Munchkin boiler, pump, etc = $9000+ and a Noritz boiler, pump, ect. intsalled for around $8000. Are these reasonable quotes? FYI, it’s a 2000 sq ft tri-level home.

Also, the home is carpeted throughout and after reading about how the baseboard heating works, should I be concerned that the carpet is fairly snug under the baseboard heaters?

Are there any concerns with babies and small children climbing up and around the baseboards?? Thanks

does anyone have radiant heating in their sidewalk and or driveway, or could you give me some sort of estimate of installation costs and energy expense for this?

Seem to me that Forced-Air is the worst for allergies. Hot water Baseboard is good but more expensive to install. And Radiant is the most expensive to install, and if there’s a problem with it, you have to break open the foundation to fix it. Also we want to put real solid hardwood floors, and those are not compatible with In-Floor Radiant Heating.

I am leaning toward either Forced-air or Hot Water Baseboard.

Which is better?
